Higher world market share of the ten largest automakers within a year's time

The article „The market shares of the 10 largest automakers 2000 - 2014“ highlights a period of twelve years. Against this background this article deals with the changes within one year from 2013 to 2014.

October 21st, 2015 - The ranking of the worldwide ten largest automobile manufacturers shows only one change within a year's time: VOLKSWAGEN advances on rank two while GM falls back on rank three.


The top tier of three companies with market shares of 10% and more loses slightly from total 33.5% to 33.4%.

The medium group of automakers with 5% up to under 10% market share wins clearly. Its market share rises from 26.3% to 31.7% within a year's time. Honda closes rank to this group. Even in comparison with the companies, market share of this group increases by a half percentage point.


The same applies for the smaller group among the ten worldwide  largest automakers with market shares of fewer than 5% each. The market share of this group, i.e. Suzuki and PSA, rises from 6.4% to 6.7%.


Against the background of a growing global auto production the ten largest automakers could strengthen their market shares from 71.1% to 71.8% within a yeaar's time.


There are primarily the automakers with market shares of fewer than 10% that benefit from this increase.
