Conveyor and machinery industry 2008 - 2016 1H

Conveyor’s production closes the gap on machinery industry in 2015, growth expectations clearly lower

Which differences do the development of production and sales indicate in the conveyor indicates compared to the machinery industry in the last eight years from 2008 to 2016? Which growth expectations of the machine-builders in the conveyor show up until 2018?

August 23rd, 2016 - Production and sales in the conveyor have been differently developing in their relation to each other and related to the machinery industry. In brief:

  • Production remains longer imprisoned than the machinery industry in the economic crisis. Then it needs five years in order to keep pace with the development of the machinery industry.

  • Also sales are longer forced into crisis mode than machinery industry. After one year, however, they clearly outperform the development in the machinery industry. The foreign sales works thereby as growth engine.

Changeful above average development of production closes gap on the machinery industry

During the economic crisis 2009 production in the conveyor plunged in lockstep with the machinery industry. When production in the machinery industry rises again in 2010, in the conveyor it continues to drop.

Then production in the conveyor differentiates itself opposite the machinery industry to a change of development from above and below average.

Production in conveyor compared to machinery industry from 2008 to 2016.

Up to 2014 production in the machinery industry developed better than in the conveyor. However, this better development relativized itself until 2015 as production in the conveyor developed in accordance with the machinery industry maintaining it also in the first half-year 2016.

So altogether production in the conveyor has been developing above average in the years since 2011 closing the gap on the machinery industry that had been torn by the economic crisis.

Sales in the conveyor have been developing more dynamically since 2012 than in the machinery industry

In the crisis 2009 sales in the conveyor fall less than in the machinery industry. However, they continue to fall also in 2010 like production while sales in machinery industry rise again.

Sales of conveyor compared to machinery industry from 2008 to 2016.

2012 sales in conveyor grow more dynamically than those in the machinery industry. A development that persists until 2015. In the first half-year 2016, however, sales in the conveyer drop more strongly than in the machinery industry.

Foreign sales as driving force for growth

As driving force for the above average sales development in conveyor operates the foreign sales. They develop clearly more dynamically than those in the machinery industry. That is true up to the year 2015.

Domestic and foreign sales in conveyor compared to machinery industry from 2008 to 2016.

In the first half-year 2016 sales in the conveyor with foreign countries decreases more strongly than with the homeland and also more strongly than altogether in the machinery industry.

Machine-builders in the conveyor with growth expectations until 2018 below average

Finally we look at the growth expectations to 2018 of the machine-builders in the conveyor in the comparison to the machinery industry.

The growth expectations refer to machine production. They are with 2.1% per year until 2018 below those of the machinery industry with 3.7%. This is the result of a market survey from Quest TechnoMarketing in the year 2015 covering over 230 machine-builders.

Half of the machine-builders in the conveyor do not expect any growth of machine production to 2018. Related to the machinery industry a good third is concerned. So the development of production below average for many years in the conveyor determines clearly also the growth expectations.

Growth expectations of machine-builders in conveyor compared to machinery industry from 2008 to 2016.

This is also true regarding the expectations of an annual above average growth of 5% and more. At this point the shares of the machine-builders in the conveyor are with in each case 28% and 6% below those of the machinery industry.

Only very sporadically the expectation exists of an annual growth of 20% and more (share 6%).
